Job Description :

  • Shift supervisor for Police Service Technicians assigned to Nighttime Building Security. Supervise, train, advise and counsel all personnel assigned. Regulate subordinates' activities and provide instruction regarding duties and responsibilities. Train new personnel in all facets of the job, including knowledge of regulations, procedures, techniques, courtesy, and enforcement of all department policies. Conduct briefings as necessary before shift assignments (i.e., inspection of personnel; explain and discuss new / revised department orders, memos, directives; conduct training of routine and newly developed procedures). Ensure all calls for service are handled as quickly and professionally as possible. Review, evaluate, and approve all shift subordinates' work performance, evaluations, time records (sick, vacation, overtime, compensatory time), and work schedules. Receive and direct to the supervisor any complaint registered from and / or against shift personnel, work schedule conflicts, grievances, personnel conflicts, or other issues as necessary. Has the authority to take disciplinary actions or to effectively recommend such actions.
  • Foot patrol university buildings to safeguard against fire, trespassing, thefts, and other hazards; ensure that doors are properly secured and lights are off when facilities are not in use.
  • Foot patrol assigned area(s) of streets, parking facilities / lots and buildings; assist public with information and directions; report safety hazards, acts of vandalism, suspicious persons and activities and any other condition that is or could create a problem; (i.e. malfunction of mechanical equipment of parking facilities, elevators, sound systems, lights, telephone parking meters), check fire extinguishers, request cleaning of facilities as needed; prepare and submit written reports of incidents when required.
  • Direct traffic at intersections and / or traffic congestion due to campus special events, accidents, stranded motorists, etc.
  • Answer inquiries from the public, directs appropriate agency / division.
  • Miscellaneous related duties
  • This position is designated as an Essential Employee. Essential employees provide vital support to the UF and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police / designee. Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and / or closing of offices.

Advertised Salary :

20.60-$22.00 / hourly; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements :

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational / technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Some positions may require some proficiency in typing.

Preferred Qualifications :

Valid Drivers License.

Ability to climb stairs and open and close gates to campus.

Ability to operate safely authorized motorized vehicle type equipment.

Working knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; working knowledge of judicial proceedings; working knowledge of the principles of correct grammar usage; working knowledge of radio codes and procedures; ability and skill to effectively communicate via police radio, telephone, etc.; knowledge, ability and skill in operating motor vehicles and other police equipment; ability to work to work in stressful situations; ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to supervise; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications; ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to investigate and obtain critical facts; ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately; ability to collect and evaluate data; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner
