Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller
Location : Tempe, AZ | Schedule : On-Site, Full-Time
Overview :
Our client, a fast-growing construction company based in Tempe, Arizona, is seeking a Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to manage daily financial operations and support the leadership team. This role is ideal for a confident, self-motivated professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and can independently handle a variety of accounting responsibilities with precision and professionalism.
You will play a vital role in overseeing AR / AP, payroll, job costing, and general administrative functions. If you are systems-oriented, thrive under pressure, and have a proven background in accounting—especially within the construction industry—we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities :
- Oversee accounts receivable : customer invoicing, payment entry and bank deposits.
- Manage accounts payable : verify invoice pricing against quotes / purchase orders, process payments, and reconcile vendor accounts.
- Accurately process payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with regulations and deadlines.
- Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
- Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
- Prepare, file, and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with subcontractors on payment tracking, compliance documents, and contracts.
- Generate job costing reports and commission statements.
- Provide ad-hoc support and reporting for the executive team.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain organized records and support historical financial data.
Qualifications & Skills :
5+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred)Deep understanding of accounting principles and financial reportingExperience working with subcontractors and understanding of construction billing and financial reporting processesAble to prepare, review and understand a financial statement.Proficient experience in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Foundation accounting software is a plusStrong organizational and time management skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to work independentlyDetail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communicationAbility to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and stakeholdersAbility to speak, read and write in the English language.Education and Experience :
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experiencePrior experience in a similar accounting or controller-supporting roleAdditional Details
