This position is responsible for all production related activities and has direct responsibility for the production department. The role contributes heavily to the safe and efficient operation of the Bayport, TX chemical facility.

The production staff report to this role and the position is responsible for ensuring the assets are operated within regulatory constraints to ensure we meet our production goals and product quality targets are met. This position will also lead specific OEE and Process Safety initiatives and provide technical guidance in root cause investigations.

This position will have direct input for the successful operation of the process equipment and process chemistry at the site. This position must effectively communicate and provide required reports to the appropriate level of management and / or stakeholders.

Responsible for monthly analysis of performance and identifying opportunities and resources needed and driving continuous improvement throughout the plant. Capable of independently determining, developing, and evaluating scientific methods, strategies, and procedures in order to achieve plant goals.

The Production Manager will be responsible for ensuring the month end inventory closing process is executed and will provide guidance on production and process issues. They will also ensure that raw materials are ordered in a timely manner to prevent unplanned asset downtime. The role will be the responsible cost center owner for multiple cost centers related to production activities.

Daily interaction with the engineers, production staff and maintenance departments will be required. Strong interpersonal skills are required to lead cross-functional teams across the site. Must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision on multiple projects / initiatives across the site. The incumbent should have strong leadership competencies along with 10+ years of chemical manufacturing experience.

This position will be directly responsible for managing, training, and developing the production staff. Manages other supervisors or teams of employees using machinery or equipment to assist with manufacturing, packaging, and other steps along a production line.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance, management, mentoring and development of production staff.
  • Provide technical support to area plant engineers managing OEE and improvement of projects. Provide guidance in developing scope for these projects, as well as time schedules and cost estimates.
  • Ensure successful training of affected personnel when changes to equipment or operating procedures are implemented.
  • Support safety and environmental process activities and be a role model for leadership in these areas.
  • Continuous improvement in productivity of the manufacturing facility. This includes mentoring and developing engineers and working with plant personnel to improve production and operations through changes to process equipment, procedures, and operator training.
  • Perform failure and root cause analysis and make technical recommendations for repairs and replacements considering economics and plant availability risks.
  • Product quality including working with plant personnel to troubleshoot problems, investigate complaints, and implement effective technical solutions to prevent reoccurrence. Lead plant engineering effort in a technical based approach to problem solving and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all elements of process safety management by managing and reporting on site MOC status, driving improvement, and ensure compliance. Provide input to develop CAPEX budget and provide leadership, technical expertise and support for new product introductions, major process changes, operator training and generating new manufacturing procedures.
  • Provide coverage for the Assistant Production Manager when this person is out of the office.
  • Manage and control the total operating budget, responsible for production cost centers and owns OEE reporting.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS ChE with at least 10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing
  • Planning, leading, organizing, and negotiating
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing of production team including operators and shift leads
  • Oversee raw material ordering and replenishment
  • Strong technical troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to lead and direct work teams
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in successfully overcoming technical challenges
  • Skilled in identifying opportunities for optimization and implementing ideas
  • Proficiency with data historians and trending software PHD, Infoplus.21, or Parcview
