Role Description :
The Web Application Firewall (WAF) Support Specialist is responsible for managing and evolving application-layer security controls using F5 Application Security Manager (ASM) to support DoD cybersecurity initiatives. The role supports F5 WAF policy tuning, site-specific request handling, and enforcement of application security controls across globally dispersed defense networks. This specialist will directly contribute to incident response efforts and coordinate with Cloud, Gateway, and Site Teams to ensure high-performing and effective web protection strategies.
Responsibilities :
- Primary responsibility will be issuing Firewall Acceptances - based on various customer requests
- Web Application Firewall Policy Development
- Develop, tune, and maintain WAF policies using F5 ASM Coordinate deployments and policy changes with cloud architects and local site engineers
- Support proactive tuning of policies based on learning mode analysis and stakeholder feedback
- Site Coordination & Access Management
- Fulfill block / unblock requests; provide technical justification for negative determinations
- Collaborate with subscriber sites to validate false positives and refine rule sets
- Support secure onboarding of new applications into protected environments
- Threat Support & Surge Response
- Participate in incident response surges and assist threat hunting efforts
- Align policy updates with adversary TTPs and emerging vulnerability trends
- Provide input to detection engineering and mitigation teams
Qualifications :
Clearance Level : Secret (upgrade to TS required)
Education : Bachelor's degree and min 6 years of overall technical experience or 10 years of overall technical experience without a degree
Certifications : DoD 8570 IAT Level II
Experience :
Experience with firewallsExperience monitoring network trafficUnderstanding of OWASP Top 10, HTTP / HTTPS protocols, and common web exploitsFamiliarity with incident response workflows and cyber threat mitigationExperience supporting DoD cybersecurity or network defense environmentsExperience with Management of Controls and / or Security of an ApplicationPreferred Qualifications :
12 years experience with incident response or threat hunting in enterprise or DoD settingsExperience with F5 firewallsStrong verbal and written communication skills for customer interactions and technical documentationUnderstanding of network-level protocol analysis and secure web architecturePrior experience supporting remote site deployments or global operationsGCIH, CEH or CySA+Benefits at Sentar :
