WHO ARE WE
The Texas Department of Agriculture's Grants Office is dedicated to enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life in rural Texas through its community and economic development programs. The Grants Office staff work with agriculture producers / ranchers, rural communities, Texas businesses, and various organizations and associations throughout the state.
The Grants Office oversees numerous state and federal grant programs, including but not limited to : Agricultural Grant, State Trade Expansion Program, Marketing Enhancement Grant Assistance, Home Delivered Meals Grant, Boll Weevil Eradication, Rural Hospital Capital Improvement Program, Rural Nursing Stipends, Surplus Agricultural Grant, Specialty Crop Block Grant, and the State of Texas Agricultural Relief program.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Program Intern will assist in the promotion, development and implementation of the new Texas Agricultural Finance Authority's grant opportunities - Agricultural Grant Program. You will work under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with reviewing grant applications submitted for funding.
Assist with special projects including planning and implementation of technical assistance provided to applicants and grantees.
Assist in reviewing and processing requests for grant funds, monitoring reports, and project completion reports.
Complete independent and various projects under the direction of the Director for Grants.
Participate in division staff meetings and attend meetings / functions, as requested, with other divisions, associations, both within the agency and with external stakeholders.
Assist with requests for program information, including research and compiling information.
Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance.
Follow all TDA policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (The application must state how each of the following qualifications are met - resumes do not take the place of the required state of Texas application which must be completed in CAPPS or WIT.)
Enrollment in a college, university, or graduate program or a recent graduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.0
Completion of at least 60 credit hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with diverse stakeholders and managing competing interests.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation and grammar; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.
Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment; and providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers.
Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May be required to travel, which will include overnight.
