Controller
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller with strong construction industry expertise to lead and manage all aspects of financial reporting, job costing, compliance, and internal controls.
The Controller will oversee the financial health and strategy of the company, ensuring accuracy in reporting, job cost integrity, and regulatory compliance. This role requires deep knowledge of construction accounting, project financial management, and leadership capabilities to supervise the accounting team and support executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and job cost accounting
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and financial reporting
- Manage the preparation of work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and job cost forecasts
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
- Prepare and present financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to senior leadership
- Support cash flow planning, cost control, and profitability analysis across projects
- Coordinate with external CPA firms for audits, reviews, and tax filings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, state / federal tax laws, and construction industry regulations
- Monitor contract compliance, change orders, and retainage billing
- Lead accounting software improvements and integrations (, Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Procore, etc.)
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
Qualifications :
Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)Minimum 7 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 in a construction or real estate development environmentProven knowledge of construction-specific accounting (WIP, job costing, revenue recognition)Proficiency in construction accounting systems (Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar)Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reportingExperience managing a team of accountants or financial professionalsExceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership skillsStrong communication skills, able to explain financials to non-financial stakeholdersPreferred Experience :
Experience with union / certified payrollMulti-entity and / or multi-state operationsFamiliarity with AIA billing, lien waivers, subcontractor complianceExperience supporting or leading ERP transitionsEqual Opportunity Employer.
