About the Caminos Program at Everstand :

The Caminos Program at Everstand supports unaccompanied children (UCs) who have recently arrived in the United States by providing safe, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care during their reunification process. Caminos offers Home Study and Post Release Services (HS / PRS) in partnership with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensuring that youth are placed in safe homes and are supported as they integrate into their communities. The program works across the Mid-Atlantic and other regions to assist children and their sponsors through critical transitions, with a focus on safety, stabilization, and long-term success.

Position Summary :

The Home Study & Post Release Case Manager provides culturally competent assessment and case management services to recently immigrated unaccompanied children and the individuals sponsoring them in the United States. This position includes conducting home studies of potential sponsor homes to assess safety and suitability for placement, and providing post release services that promote successful community integration and support family reunification efforts. The Case Manager supports the delivery of Everstands trauma-responsive model by providing comprehensive services to both the referred youth and their caregivers, designed to increase effective communication, provide psychoeducation, and ensure connection to a supportive network and formal / informal resources in the community. Everstand works in collaboration with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to deliver home study and post release case management services to UCs across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Home Study Services

  • Model and act in accordance with Everstands core values.
  • Conduct the home study process through a combination of in-home visits, interviews, phone calls, and other investigative activities to assess a potential sponsors ability to provide a safe and suitable living environment.
  • Utilize information from interviews, home visit observations, and document reviews (including background checks for all adults in the home) to make informed recommendations.
  • Conduct collaborative psychoeducation with youth and sponsors to identify areas of support needed for reunification success.
  • Educate and prepare sponsors, assisting with access to services and resources.
  • Produce comprehensive written reports with findings and recommendations within 10 days of case assignment.

Post Release Services

  • Conduct home visits and phone contacts to assess placement safety and connect youth to community services.
  • Provide ongoing case management and referrals across domains such as education, healthcare, mental health, legal support, gang prevention, trafficking assistance, and more.
  • Develop individualized youth and family care plans that include measurable goals and reflect youth and family voice.
  • Collaborate with youth, sponsors, and informal supports to create safety and crisis plans.
  • Deliver or coordinate crisis intervention as needed to ensure youth safety.
  • Facilitate case management meetings with all stakeholders to assess progress and ensure effective service delivery.
  • Maintain consistent contact with youth and sponsors per required timeframes (48-hour initial contact, 14-day in-home visit).
  • Meet all performance metrics, including documentation and timely follow-ups.
  • Submit thorough documentation in compliance with Everstand and ORR standards.
  • Overall Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for youth, families, sponsors, and external partners.
  • Travel frequently (within 200 miles by car and further by air if needed) to conduct home visits.
  • Participate in culturally competent outreach and education efforts for immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with families, youth, team members, and agencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Everstand and ORR policies regarding services for Unaccompanied Children, including legal frameworks.
  • Understand community resources and help families access needed services.
  • Demonstrate cultural humility and responsiveness in working with diverse populations.
  • Identify and communicate professional development needs to supervisors.
  • Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effectively engage youth and families therapeutically.

    Work Environment / Remote Office Requirements :

    This position operates in both professional office settings and remote work environments. This requires the use of standard office equipment and secure, confidential workspaces at remote locations. Fast and reliable internet (minimum 15 Mbps download) is required. Everstand provides a laptop and cell phone; other equipment and costs are the employees responsibility.

    Physical Demands :

    This role requires various physical activities, including walking, standing, sitting, and occasional lifting. Specific vision abilities are also required.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work :

    Remote; Monday-Friday 9 : 00AM EST-5 : 00PM EST

    Travel :

    Frequent local and occasional out-of-area and overnight travel is required, including air travel and car rentals.

    Required Education and Experience :

  • Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, education, sociology, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience with children / youth or in a social services setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with immigrant, refugee, and / or unaccompanied child populations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written).
  • Preferred Education and Experience :

  • Masters degree in social work with 1 year of direct service experience.
  • SAFE Home Study or similar certification.
  • Experience in family preservation, kinship care, child welfare, or ORR case management.
  • Additional language fluency beyond English and Spanish.
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of community social services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong communication, time management, and independent work skills.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to maintain it.
  • Ability to pass various background checks, screenings, and certifications, including :
  • CPS / UII
