Field Inspector-New Jersey
Department : Underwriting
Reports to : Manager of Classification and Inspection
Location : Hybrid
Job Summary :
As a Field Inspector in the Underwriting Department, you will be responsible for conducting physical inspections of New Jersey employers and gathering information on business operations. You will prepare detailed, accurate reports that are used to establish the propriety of the classification schedule used on the employer’s workers compensation policy. The territory includes, but not limited to Northern New Jersey counties (Essex, Hudson, Middlesex and Union).

Independently scheduled inspections with employers to review operations and employmentSubmit comprehensive inspection reports representing the employer’s operational processes and employmentCollaborate with team members and management to address specific inquiries related to an employer’s operationsAttend internal, industry, and training meetings as requiredProvide weekly report of completed work and travel reimbursement requestsPerform other activities, as directedEducation and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent required; a college degree in business, insurance, risk management, or a related field is a plusCertification or coursework in insurance, underwriting, risk management, or occupational safety preferredKnowledge of industrial machinery, equipment, raw materials, and manufacturing / fabricating processesFamiliarity with workers’ compensation insurance, underwriting guidelines, or related regulatory standards is a plusPrior experience in field inspecting, underwriting support, or other related industry experience preferredPhysical Requirements :
Frequent driving, standing, walking, bending, reaching overhead, extensionFrequent handling of paperwork and computer equipmentMust be able to push / pull, open / close file cabinet / desk drawersMust be able to lift 15 pounds at timesMust be able to physically inspect propertyMust be able to travel as directed within New Jersey to perform audits / inspectionsAdditional Requirements
