The Psychiatric - Mental Health Physician role focuses on providing inpatient care for patients with acute mental health issues, including depression, mania, and psychosis, in a county hospital setting. The position requires a commitment of at least one month, with shifts of eight hours from Monday to Friday, and offers the possibility of weekend or holiday work. Candidates must hold an active CA License and a dedicated CA DEA, and board certification is preferred.

  • Start date :

ASAP - ongoing for 3+ months

  • 1 month Emergency privileges available

    • Could take up to 3 months if verifications aren't responsive

  • Minimum one month commitment
  • Shifts :

    • Full time. Eight (8) hrs / day minimum.

  • Mon-Fri
  • No call. Possible call option once hired and interested in being on call rotation
  • May have the option to work some weekends or holidays if desired (not mandatory).
  • Primary need is Mon-Fri, eight (8) hr / day
  • Some flexibility if needed on exact start time
  • Clinical Information :

    • Typical Cases : Acute inpatient hospitalization for depression, mania, and psychosis. Comorbid substance abuse is common.

  • Specialty (Adult, C&A, Geriatric) : Adult / General (not excluding geriatric) - if wanting to help cover ED / CL - all / any ages are in the ED.
  • Is Tele-psychiatry an option? No
  • Inpatient Setting :

    • Average length of stay : Avg stay is six (6) - seven (7) days.

  • Mix of short stays (3 days), avg stays (1-2 weeks) and longer stays (SPMI with conservators).
  • Who does the history & physicals? : An NP supervised by FP / IM.
  • Total beds : 18
  • Census : 15 avg
  • Number of patients the doctor will round on :

    • Up to twelve (12) for an eight (8) hour day.

  • Facility type (non-profit, profit, CMH, state, etc.) :

    • County hospital

  • EMR : MediTech
  • NP supervision? No
  • Are there other Psychiatrists on staff? :

    • Yes. The service ED, CL, Inpatient is designed for three (3) Docs to cover the hospital each day Mon-Fri.

  • Each will work an eight (8) hour shift. The service can also be managed by two (2) Docs each working twelve (12) hour days if family, medical, and personal needs result in being short staffed.
