Director of Computer Science

Rivier University invites applications for the position of Director of Computer Science Programs which includes undergraduate degrees in artificial intelligence and computer science and graduate programs in applied artificial intelligence, computer information systems and computer science. This is a twelve-month, full-time administrative position with an annual teaching load of fifteen credits. The Director will report to the Dean of Arts and Sciences.

Position Summary

The Director of Computer Science is responsible for the strategic direction, academic excellence, and operational management of the Computer Science programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Director will oversee curriculum development, faculty recruitment and mentoring, student success initiatives, and external partnerships to ensure the department remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide academic leadership and oversight for the undergraduate and graduate Computer Science programs ensuring excellence in teaching, project-based learning, and student outcomes.

Collaborate with university leadership to align the Computer Science program with the institution's broader strategic goals.

Serve as a member of Deans cabinet.

Lead curriculum development and assessment to align industry trends and accreditation standards.

Recruit, mentor, and evaluate full-time and adjunct faculty.

Foster a collaborative and inclusive academic environment that supports student learning and faculty development.

Engage with industry partners to identify emerging trends and incorporate real-world applications into the curriculum.

Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, alumni, and academic institutions to enhance experiential learning and career opportunities.

Manage departmental budgets, resources, and scheduling.

Support enrollment growth through program promotion and student recruitment initiatives.

Represent the department in university-wide committees and initiatives.

Ensure compliance with NECHE and other relevant accreditation standards.

Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse student population.

Possess a keen interest and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students, as well as the ability to work effectively with students of all levels and abilities.

Promote a collaborative and collegial work learning environment.

Ability and willingness to support the Mission of the University; and work collaboratively and collegially.

Qualifications

Doctorate in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.

Minimum of three (3) years' experience utilizing pedagogy that is student-centered, problem-based and engages students in experiential learning to develop high levels of proficiency in operating systems (OS) and programming languages.

Experience teaching with a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).

Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and innovation.

Experience in academic leadership, curriculum development, and faculty supervision.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Proven ability to develop and implement academic plans, course development and support program growth.

Familiarity with industry trends, technology advancements, and employer needs in the Computer Science field
