Job Description

The Position :

The Associate Engineer will help drive the development of our client’s Gene Therapy platform. Working as a member of Gene Therapy Process Development Group within the Technical Operations Department, he / she will actively contribute to internal development of robust, well-characterized, high-quality and high-yielding upstream processes for viral vector production to treat rare diseases. This individual will be performing production support activities as well as laboratory management activities.

Primary Responsibilities Include :

  • Contributes to Upstream Development operational improvement, maintains lab equipment, inventory management and laboratory organization
  • Routinely performing cell culture and bioreactor monitoring by utilizing cell and metabolite analyzers
  • Assists with cell inoculation, transfection and harvest procedures
  • Assists with experimental execution and bioreactor setup
  • Assists with cell banking activities such as vialing, freezing, and storage
  • Collecting and performing basic analysis of production and experiment data
  • Preparing solutions, buffers, and media
  • Collaborate cross functionally with teams across departments
  • Adheres to company and department SOPs on lab operations and good documentation practice, and EHS lab safety regulations with highest standards
  • Supports drafting and review of technical reports, SOPs as appropriate under general supervision
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic, effective team player who consistently exemplifies the client’s values : patient-first, action, unconventional thinking, talent and integrity.

Desired Education and Skills :

  • A.S. degree with 2+ years of lab experience. B.S. in a scientific disciple with 0-2+ years of related experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience or education in concepts, practices and procedures of cell culture and aseptic techniques.
  • Strong ability to apply basic engineering principles and statistical tools for troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Experience in writing, revising, and following SOPs and MBRs preferred.
  • Ability to perform statistical calculations, weight and volume measurements as governed by SOPs and MBRs required.
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment and supplies required
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary
  • Able to multi-task and perform effectively under tight deadlines
  • Effective communication and listening skills are required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
