Director, Business Strategy

The Director, Business Strategy for St. Mary's Healthcare (SMH) will play a critical role for the organization in supporting the executive team in delivering high-priority strategic projects and providing in-depth analysis and assessment of strategies and operating imperatives designed to advance the hospital's mission while improving the hospital's operating margin and growing market share regionally. Provide direct oversight of some hospital departments and indirect oversight support to leader colleagues in areas of revenue, expense, and / or return on investment.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and execute growth strategies that align with defined key business metrics and objectives, in order to produce revenue growth, cost savings, and overall profitability.
- Based on identified growth strategies, develop comprehensive business plans that are inclusive of all direct and indirect costs.
- As directed, develop and implement LEAN strategies to improve operational efficiency :
- Conduct process assessments to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead cross-functional teams in Kaizen events and other Lean projects.
- Monitor and report on progress of Lean initiatives and performance metrics.
- Establish analytical frameworks and conduct complex business analyses to identify or validate business opportunities and viable revenue streams.
- Conduct external research / data gathering and analysis; monitor industry trends for potential business impact.
- Collecting and analyzing market data and validating deliverables for all key contractual arrangement with current and future vendors.
- Supporting SMH Executive and Leadership Teams and facilitating work groups as needed to help achieve annual operating goals.
- Facilitate all project planning activity up to and including applicable Certificate of Need application and filing with NYS Department of Health.
- Oversees the hospital's capital budget process inclusive of obtaining all up-to-date pricing or any equipment being proposed while factoring in the cost of purchase vs. cost of lease.
- Develops and monitors unit staffing patterns to ensure patient safety, quality care, productivity and excellent patient outcomes while meeting applicable standards. Responsible for providing leadership to personnel.
- Interviews and selects qualified applicants for open, budgeted positions within the guidelines set forth in Human Resources polices and procedures.
- Provides ongoing feedback to staff concerning their performance, implementing corrective action as needed and per human resource policy. Ensures performance evaluations are thorough, timely and include goal setting for each individual. Establishes systems for open communication and problem solving, encourages employee involvement in safety and health standards, hazard analysis, and performance improvement initiatives. Promotes growth and development in self and others. Develops and documents orientation and ongoing training programs for departmental personnel.
- Effectively uses Workforce Management time and attendance system and other human resource information systems and processes. Effectively interprets and implements Human Resource policies and consults with Human Resources as necessary. Encourages and supports applicable certification of all eligible staff.

Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field required. Master's degree in related field strongly preferred.Minimum of five (5) years of strategy and business development within the healthcare sector.Proven experience applying lean principles in a hospital or operational environment.Proven track record of driving revenue growth and identifying opportunities to operate more efficiently.In-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry inclusive of payer contracting and reimbursement trends.Familiar with hospital regulatory agency accreditation body (e.g., DOH, Joint Commission, DNV) related criteria.Analytical skills to effectively evaluate and make recommendations regarding business opportunities.Certifications / Licensure :
Lean Six Sigma certification preferredRequired Skills and Attributes :
