Lead Veterinary Assistant

Southpoint Animal Hospital is located in South Durham, NC near Southpoint Mall. Our veterinarians, along with a highly skilled team of nurses, technicians, and client care advocates, have proudly practiced the highest level of medicine while also providing excellent customer care for the last 14 years. We are a primary veterinary care facility that strives to deliver quality wellness and preventive care, progressive medical care, soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery, comprehensive dental procedures, laser therapy, and diagnostic ultrasound. Our beautiful hospital offers 7 exam rooms, a large treatment area, separate surgical and dental suites, digital radiography, ultrasound, therapeutic cold laser, in-house pharmacy, and a separate glass-walled ICU. We take pride in a work-life balance and this includes being closed on the first Saturday of every month and 6 major holidays as well as no boarding and on-call. We are seeking a Lead Veterinary Assistant to join our growing hospital to provide exceptional care to our patients! You will work alongside other skilled Vet Assistants, support our Credentialed Veterinary Technicians and DVMs in the daily flow of the hospital. We're looking for an experienced, motivated Lead Veterinary Assistant to join our team and help us provide top-tier care to our patients and support to our amazing staff. This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role where you can make a meaningful impact every day.

Who You Are :

  • You have at least 2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant
  • You're reliable, punctual, and have a solid work history
  • You're comfortable working evenings and Saturdays
  • You're a natural leader with strong communication skills and a calm, solution-focused mindset
  • You're known for your teamwork, professionalism, and commitment to patient care

What You'll Do :

  • Lead and support our technical team with compassion and clarity
  • Help maintain efficient daily workflow and excellent medical standards
  • Collaborate with DVMs, CSRs, and leadership to ensure the hospital runs smoothly
  • Provide hands-on training, coaching, and real-time feedback to your team
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and daily huddles
  • Jump in where needed on technical tasks including anesthesia, phlebotomy, dental procedures, radiology, and more
  • What You'll Bring :

  • Solid technical knowledge and skills across all areas of patient care
  • Confidence in guiding others, solving problems, and handling tough situations with grace
  • Familiarity with PIMs systems, online pharmacy platforms, and inventory management
  • A deep understanding of veterinary medicine, safety standards, and compliance
  • This Role Reports To : Hospital Manager & Lead DVM

    Pay range of $25-$28 / hour based on experience
