The Office of Communication at Phillips Academy is looking for a strategic, experienced designer with a passion for storytelling and brand expression to join our team as Director of Editorial Design. Reporting to the Director of Editorial and Internal Communications, the successful candidate will bring a fresh, innovative approach to legacy print materials and digital platforms while upholding and advancing Andover’s distinct brand identity.

This position is responsible for developing multichannel design solutions for various audiences—alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and prospective students and families. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.

A primary responsibility for this role is design of the award-winning Andover magazine, published 4X per year. The Director of Editorial Design is an integral part of the magazine team, developing innovative editorial approaches that reinforce and elevate the Academy’s brand in new and exciting ways. Additionally, the successful candidate will help shape a cohesive and visually engaging approach for magazine content across platforms.

To be considered for this position a portfolio of recent work is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and production of Andover magazine
  • Develop print / digital assets (ads, programs, social content, etc.)
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications
  • Collaborate with writers, editors, and campus partners
  • Direct photo shoots and manage creative vendors

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite; skilled in Canva and CMS tools
  • Strong print production and brand management experience
  • Portfolio required with application
  • Education : A degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) is preferred; relevant experience will also be considered.
