Mental Health Program Associate
The NYC Department for the Aging is deeply committed to helping older adults age in their homes and creating a community-care approach that reflects a model age-inclusive city. NYC Aging's mental health program provides mental health services to older adults by co-locating and embedding mental health services in older adult centers throughout NYC. The mental health program works to de-stigmatize mental health through engagement, conduct comprehensive assessments, and provide clinical mental health treatment. NYC Aging contracts with mental health provider organizations who hire bilingual / bicultural licensed clinical mental health professionals. NYC Aging's Mental Health Initiatives unit seeks a highly motivated and agile individual to serve as a Mental Health Program Associate. The Mental Health Program Associate will support the Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) in the implementation of innovative mental health services for older adults by providing expertise and developing partnerships with a variety of mental health based organizations through grants and by also serving as a resource both within and outside of this agency.
The Mental Health Associate will Assist and support the Director of Mental Health Initiatives in the implementation, administration, coordination, oversight, and monitoring NYC Aging's mental health initiatives. The Geriatric Mental Health (DGMH) program embeds clinicians at older adult centers to de-stigmatize mental health through engagement activities and provides clinical mental health treatment. The Hub and Spoke program outreaches to satellite older adult centers (Spokes) to provide engagement activities. Treatment is then provided at the licensed satellite mental health clinics co-located in older adult centers designated as Hub sites. A mental health program targeted to those older adults who have experienced elder abuse and / or crime provides clinical services to these individuals and trains mental health clinical staff on this treatment approach to ensure a wider application of the intervention. NYC Aging is a partner in four NYS Office of Mental Health Grants that are a triple partnership between mental health, aging services, and substance use disorders to provide treatment services to help older adults age in place in communities hardest impacted by COVID.
