Job Summary
The Associate Dean for Research (ADR) is a part of the College of Letters & Science (L&S) leadership team with responsibilities that include growing and advancing the college's complex, diverse and multi-disciplinary research portfolio. General responsibilities include administration and management of the Office of Research Services, advancing and advocating for the broad research mission of the College, advising the Dean and partnering with Divisional Associate Deans on college-wide initiatives, representing the College on matters related to the research mission, overseeing the allocation of College resources that support research, and working with campus and external stakeholders as necessary. The ADR is committed to fostering world-class research, advancing research excellence, and building collaborative partnerships within the College, across campus, including Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) and Wisconsin Foundation & Alumni Association (WFAA), and with outside scholars, external funding agencies and foundations, and industry leaders. The individual will require an understanding of multiple funding agencies and be familiar with the national-level research trends. They will have a broad understanding of research across the College. The ADR will serve as a catalyst for engaging faculty and staff to pursue research opportunities, including encouraging some calculated risk taking. This position is expected to be a 100% limited appointment for a five-year term, with an option at the discretion of the Dean of being renewed for an additional five years. The individual will be able to maintain a research portfolio and / or teaching load by being able to dedicate 20% of this time to those efforts.
