Job Description

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working for Veterans and their families to join our team. This role involves working with individual Veterans and their families to help them find employment and training opportunities and connecting with employers and educators in the Bridgeport area.

The Vocational Specialist will work directly with Veterans and their family members to help them gain employment in the community. S / he will work with community employment agencies and other government-funded programs to help clients access all available vocational services. The vocational specialist will develop relationships with local employers and training programs to facilitate placements. S / he also will also provide case management to assist clients with other immediate needs as they work toward employment.

This is full-time, non-exempt position.

Qualifications :

  • Veterans strongly preferred for this role.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a major in a behavioral health field or three years of experience as a vocational counselor and / or a case manager in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge of Bridgeport community social and health services agencies.
  • Knowledge of Veterans services, including local, statewide, and federal resources.
  • Experience working with behavioral health clients, including individuals with mental illness and those with substance use concerns.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office, G-Suite, and web-based databases.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced, team-oriented environment demanding flexibility.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

ABRI's mission is to provide the housing and services necessary to help homeless individuals, primarily Veterans, return to a productive and meaningful life. The organization currently operates programs that provide transitional and permanent supportive housing, vocational training and placement, clinical treatment (mental health and substance use), all serving primarily Veterans, and a drop-in Service Center for Veterans and their families who are in housing crisis or who need support.
