SUBJECT : District Focused Instructional Coach (Culture and Climate) - Doherty Quadrant Team 2025-26 (This position is a currently a one-year assignment.)
REPORTS TO : Supervisor of Positive Youth Development
POSITION PURPOSE :
The District Focused Instructional Coach of Culture and Climate provides support to teachers and staff. The coach collaborates with instructional staff, site administrators and leadership teams to increase student’s sense of belonging and promote a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school environment that is conducive to teaching and learning by identifying current, research-based strategies and practices, providing constructive feedback and assisting teachers in collecting student data and using the data to modify interventions. Using student data, the Focused Instructional Coach for Social Emotional Learning will identify professional development needs and plan, present, and evaluate on-site staff development activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
1. A minimum of five (5) years of successful school adjustment counseling or psychology experience with school-aged students
2. DESE Licensed School Adjustment Counselor or Psychologist
3. Masters Degree in a counseling field
4. Experience working with students with disabilities as well as ML students
5. Demonstrated experience in providing professional development for teachers
6. Demonstrated successful experience in working with adults and understanding of adult learning theory
7. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and engagement in providing leadership around improvement
8. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with current social emotional learning as it relates to the school’s evidence-based best practices in support of the school focus.
9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with other adults
10. Demonstrated ability to build effective teams
11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
12. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize professional development activities
13. Demonstrated ability to Communicate clearly in oral and written form
14. Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations
15. Demonstrated ability to analyze data accurately and adopt an effective course of action
16. Demonstrated ability to meet schedules and timelines
17. Demonstrated ability to work independently and / or in collaboration with the SPED Dept. and Culture and Climate Dept. to plan and organize evidence-based frameworks and resources to improve outcomes for students.
18. Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance to ensure progress monitoring occurs, and to ensure that evidence-based frameworks are implemented with fidelity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Experience as a coach, ILT member, or other leadership position(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Implements the philosophy, goals, and policies of the WPS.
2. Facilitates the development of a learning community focused on raising expectations and promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
3. Provides support using current scientifically, research-based strategies and practices to strengthen students’ social emotional competencies and sense of belonging.
4. Provides constructive feedback on engaging students and building strong and positive relationships with students, as well as fostering an environment that is safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
5. Assist’s classroom teachers in collecting, analyzing, and using student data to guide their targeted interventions and to ensure that all students are ready to learn.
6. Provides job embedded professional development focused on organization of the classroom to construct a positive learning climate.
7. Identifies site professional development needs by using student data.
8. Plans, schedules, and conducts site professional development aligned with the district and site goals outlined in the School Accountability Plan and connected to a sense of belonging, and inclusivity practices.
9. Analyzes data and prepares data presentations for schools, staff, and family groups.
10. Assist’s teachers and grade levels in analyzing student data for program improvement and strengthen student’s social emotional competencies.
11. Attends instructional leadership, department, and district meetings.
12. Participates fully in professional development for coaches, professional research and reading, and peer observations.
13. Provide coaching and modeling to teachers, as needed.
14. Maintains coach activity log.
