Department / Unit Summary

A float nurse , also known as a float pool nurse , is a registered nurse (RN) who is not assigned to a specific unit within a hospital but instead rotates among various departments to address staffing shortages and fluctuating patient care needs. This role demands adaptability, broad clinical competencies, and the ability to quickly acclimate to different medical environments.​

Key Responsibilities :

• Patient Care : Provide comprehensive nursing care across multiple units, including medical-surgical, telemetry, intensive care, and emergency departments, depending on the hospital's requirements. ​
• Assessment and Monitoring : Evaluate patients' health conditions, administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor vital signs, ensuring adherence to each unit's protocols and standards. ​
• Collaboration : Work closely with multidisciplinary teams in various departments to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.​
• Documentation : Accurately document patient information, interventions, and responses in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.​

Qualifications and requirements

Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess a associates  degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include :

Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.

ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.

One year of experience preferred

ASLS certification preferred
