The Field Service Technician performs duties required to service, repair, and install
air compressors, air-dryers, and related electrical components while increasing
customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment using various
electrical multimeters, gauges, and hand & power tools to diagnose problems and
determine proper operation and maintenance of equipment, including reviewing
corrective procedures. Inform the customer of the issues and receive repair
approval.
2. Disassemble and repair air compressors, dryers, and related components by
replacing worn or damaged parts, and test run equipment to ensure proper
operation.
3. Read and understand electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, etc.,
for troubleshooting and equipment assembly.
4. Measure clearances, tolerances, and dimensions of parts with micrometers and
calipers to ensure critical components are assembled to specifications.
5. Prepare repair quotes, indicating the costs of parts and labor needed to repair
equipment.
6. Layout and install new or specialized equipment on site, including verifying
operating voltage, rigging and installing equipment, fabricating necessary
structures, and securing equipment.
7. Discuss proper installation and operation of new equipment with the customer
and perform necessary start-up checks to ensure operation requirements are met.
8. Discuss warranty terms & procedures with customers.
9. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to reduce breakdowns.
10. Control, handle, and dispose of hazardous wastes, such as solvents, oils, and
freons, under EPA guidelines & regulations.
11. Cut, thread, and assemble steel pipe and fittings for air systems fabrications.
12. Use welding equipment and cutting torches to fabricate metal as needed.
13. Complete service call report documents, identifying problems, and noting repairs
made & parts used, and giving appropriate customer recommendations; submit to
Department coordinator for processing and billing.
14. Maintain adequate and accurate product inventory in the service van.
15. Ensure routine van maintenance is performed on the company vehicle as
scheduled or required.
16. Ensure the customer, manager, and JHF salesperson are informed and briefed
on each service call performed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping or crouching, kneeling,
crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
2. Heavy work - exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 25 to 50
pounds of force frequently, and / or 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move
objects.
3. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, along with the ability to
judge distance and space relationships, bring objects into sharp focus, and see up
and peripheral vision required. Must also have the ability to identify and
distinguish colors.
