Civil Engineering Intern (Water Resources / Transportation Drainage)

Jacobs is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Water Resources / Transportation Drainage) to join our Transportation team in Tempe, AZ in Summer 2026, working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients' challenges locally and worldwide.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience in large-scale transportation projects and apply your academic knowledge to real-world transportation drainage challenges. You will assist our team in solving a range of problems and learn about industry-standard procedures and software. You'll work alongside experienced Engineers and Project Managers, gaining valuable insights into the field of transportation engineering. This internship provides a hands-on learning experience directly related to responsibilities that transfer to skills needed in a future full-time position.

Your responsibilities may include :

  • Work in a team environment with other project engineers on the detailed hydrologic, hydraulic, and drainage analysis and design of urban and rural transportation related projects.
  • Perform routine aspects of engineering requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles under close supervision.
  • Provide support in the preparation of contract drainage drawings, specifications, and estimates.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Drainage Group Leader and other team members.

Here's what you'll need :

  • In pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Word, and Excel.
  • Ideally, you will also have :

  • 3.0 GPA
  • Must be at least a rising Junior
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Coursework and / or in transportation, hydrology and hydraulics, and CAD software is preferred
  • Strong analytical and organizational skill.
  • The base salary range for this position is $40,000.00 to $60,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
