CAPS Faculty Counselor Full-Time Temporary – Non-Tenure Track (SSP / AR II – AY)
Position Details :
The Student Health Center in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Cal State LA, is seeking applications for a full-time non tenure-track CAPS faculty counselor with positions available as determined by need during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Minimum Qualifications :
Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and demonstrate ability and / or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
Preferred Qualifications :
Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and training.
Duties :
The Counselor will assist in coordination and management of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) clinical programming, staff development and student internships and will provide clinical and supervisory oversight as expected of a staff psychotherapist. Under the general direction of the CAPS Director and / or designee, the Counselor is responsible for : providing guidance, training, and oversight of the clinical staff; onboarding new counselors; training and oversight of less experienced SSP AR Employees / Counselors, student trainees / interns; and assisting in the development and implementation of internal procedures to ensure efficient and effective counseling services. This position also assists the CAPS department in promoting the health and wellbeing of all Cal State . students and the campus community. The Counselor ensures the team provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive and enhance the quality of campus life. Further, the incumbent will oversee the coordination of various CAPS projects and programs as assigned by the director and / or designee.
In addition, the Counselor will assume regular psychological counseling responsibilities that include providing a full range of clinical, consultation, and outreach services. This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, provision of the following : individual, group, and couples mental health assessment; counseling, psychotherapy, and case management; emergency assessment and crisis intervention; tele therapy; prevention education; classroom, group, organization, and department presentations, and workshops; referrals; individual, organizational and group consultation; treatment / intervention planning and follow through; timely documentation of case notes and reports in electronic health records; referrals to and consulting with other professionals on- and off-campus; participation in CAPS peer review and other activities of the SHC Continuous Quality Improvement program; attending CAPS and other departmental meetings as assigned; participation at professional trainings, workshops and / or conferences as assigned; participation in other assigned SHC and campus committees and activities; licensure maintenance; may be required to train and mentor peer educators. The Counselor will provide outreach and programming designed to support various special student groups, including Black and African American, those who identify as LGBTQIA+, Veteran and disabled students.

Salary :
Initial Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the CAPS faculty counselor : Academic Year-month Classification is available based on the following ranges : (per salary schedule 7 / 1 / 2024)
SSP II Range : $6,825-$12,191 / month (Actual range : $6825-$7,500 / month)
The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the range, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
