Construction Inspector (Roadway) - Mobile, Al
The Construction Inspector will be responsible for inspecting and reporting on every phase of the construction process : including, but not limited to, civil (roadway, site work & utilities), structural, building, electrical, mechanical (water-main & HVAC), indoor air quality, safety, and hazardous material abatement. This position will ensure that all contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed by the contractors. This position is also accountable for establishing and maintaining a professional working relationship with architects, engineers, testing labs, general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and the general public, where applicable.
Essential Duties :
- Attend various meetings as needed related to assigned construction projects
- Submit detailed documentation of daily construction activities
- Assist with coordination of required project acceptance testing
- Perform materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation
- Identify potential problems and notify the contractor and project engineer of any potential problems
- Keep project engineer and supervisor abreast of progress throughout duration of assigned projects
- Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual
- Compose, submit and log weekly status reports, weekly percentage completion reports, and daily reports to include : project conditions (i.e. trade manpower and work description), architectural and engineering communication and direction, general conditions, temperatures, weather conditions, general conditions and activities, site work, subcontractors and personnel, hours worked, description of work performed, equipment used, verbal discussions and oral instructions, phone conversations, visitors to site, job requirements, photos, videos, delays
- Provide daily photos of entire job site construction progress. When necessary, provide photos to verify pre-construction existing building and site conditions
- Post addendums to plans and specifications
- Maintain as-built drawings for the duration of the project
- Maintain satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards and maintain accurate records
- Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and related equipmentThorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawingsProficient written and verbal communication skills needed for submitting extensive written reports and documentation; construction reports and logs are written and filed dailyMust be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress, to detect errors in construction projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and associatesMust be able to perform specific installation tasks and field measurementsMust have basic mathematical skills to assist with measurements and computations of installed quantitiesMust be able to interpret and implement company mandated safety policiesMust have an ability to operate a level and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for gradesMust be able to operate a computer and computer software related to word processing and spreadsheetsMinimum Requirements :
Cross-skilled inspector in the areas of asphalt / resurfacing and utility inspection, preferredHigh school diploma / General Equivalency Diploma(GED)2 years of experience inspecting all utilities, electrical, waterline installation and roadway constructionLicensures, Certifications, and Registrations :
NICET, ACI, ICC or certifications related to asphalt resurfacing and erosion control required OR must be able to obtain certifications within 6 months of hireValid State Driver's License required and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company policy standardsPhysical Requirements :
