Orthotic fitters provide patient care through the provision and adjustment of off the shelf and pre-fabricated orthoses. Specifically trained and qualified to participate in the evaluation, fitting, and delivery of prefabricated orthotic devices and / or soft goods related to a patient's needs, as indicated by a certified orthotist.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred
- Minimum 6 months experience in providing customer service in the following settings; sports rehab, fitness, healthcare, and medical office or retail.
- Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
Preferred Experience
Allied Health Professionals (PTA, OTA, Athletic Trainer, Medical Assistant, etc.)Current certification as a Certified Fitter-orthotics, CFo (i.e., American Board Certified (ABC) or BoardEligible for certification
Knowledge and Skill
Willingness to verify all clinical activities with certified clinical personnelAbility to follow written and verbal directionsHand skills necessary to use basic laboratory tools safely and effectivelyKnowledge of biomechanical principlesThorough understanding of medical terminologyGood interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for reporting information to patient and staffEffective organizational skills and ability to prioritize and plan for the purpose of meeting deadlinesAbility to work effectively as a team memberPrinciple Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Assist certified clinicians with patient care, elevating to independent patient care with certificationEnsure all patient procedures are performed in alignment with the certifying clinicianPerform shipping, receiving, and monitoring of inventoryOrdering of orthotic parts and materials, and ensuring items are received in a timely manner to meet required deadlinesPrepare a room and patient for treatmentPerform selected patient care procedures including evaluation, fitting, delivery and adjustments of orthotic soft good itemsInstruct patients on proper use of orthotic devices and provide patient follow-upComplete and maintain accurate documentation of patient care providedMaintain a clean, safe and orderly work environmentAdhere to all safety regulations, compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations; compliance with bloodborne and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements
