In this exciting role as a  Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) Manager , you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of electronic components, indirect materials, and services procured at our Medtronic Tempe Campus (MTC) for the design and manufacture of our Cardiac Rhythm Management and Neuro Implantable Medical Devices. This role involves overseeing supplier performance, supporting NPI, driving continuous quality improvement, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering collaboration and innovation.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Owns Pre-market SQE resource planning in the AOP (Annual Operating Plan), based on the available project budgets from OU's (Operating Units) and GOSC (Global Operations and Supply Chain), and collaborates and negotiates with program managers to ensure resources are assigned appropriately, and project milestones are completed on-time and on-budget.
  • Manages Pre-market SQE responsibilities in the supplier DRM framework, as well as early engagement and close collaboration with GTS (Global Technical Sourcing) including technical capability assessments of potential new suppliers, ensuring their capabilities align with organizational standards, and assist GTS in the supplier selection.
  • Fosters collaboration between R&D and suppliers, driving quality rigor in New Product Development decisions, as well as capability and reliability with suppliers.
  • Ensures that new products and components are manufactured and qualified in accordance with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Owns component engineering lab, manages the budget for tool repairs and new tool purchasing, works closely with the engineers and technicians in the lab to ensure compliance with all quality and business requirements.
  • Actively manage and support quality assurance, supplier quality, and improvement initiatives designed to deliver the highest quality and reliability products.
  • Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
  • May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
  • Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
  • Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
  • Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Required Knowledge and Experience :

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 5+ years of work experience in Engineering and / or Quality OR Advanced degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 3+ years of work experience in Engineering and / or Quality.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering Management (MEM), science or technical field.
  • 5+ years of medical device manufacturing experience, including risk reduction methodologies.
  • Proven track record of people leadership, including hiring, managing, and promoting high-performing talent.
  • Lean Sigma Certification (Green Belt or Black belt)
  • Operations Experience
  • Project Mgmt Experience and / or certifications
  • Medtronic change control experience (IQ / OQ / PQ, CIF, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of metrology & measurement techniques; statistical analysis (Cpk, standard deviation, etc) in Minitab, measurement uncertainty, GD&T, Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility.
  • Strong knowledge in PPAP
  • Demonstrated financial acumen (Daisy experience or similar)
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization with the desire to develop collaborative relationships within the organization and across other Medtronic sites.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interface at all levels in the organization

    Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD) : $140,800.00 - $211,200.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification / education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
