Definition : Under supervision, assists clients in collecting child support, medical payments, spousal support, and arrears. Initiates legal and administrative procedures to enforce court orders and performs related duties. Duties :

  • Interview clients to gather documentation and determine eligibility for child support services.
  • Explain laws, policies, and procedures to clients, agencies, employers, and the public.
  • Locate non-custodial parents and assess income / assets; calculate support obligations and arrears.
  • Facilitate support agreements and paternity acknowledgments; identify and address payment barriers.
  • Enforce court orders through wage garnishments, liens, license suspensions, and benefit intercepts.
  • Draft legal documents for paternity, support establishment, modifications, and court filings.
  • Assist attorneys or represent the department in court hearings related to support and arrears.
  • Coordinate and collect genetic test specimens; handle sensitive paternity-related discussions.
  • Maintain and update confidential case files; track payments and reconcile balances.
  • Communicate with clients, agencies, legal representatives, and employers to exchange information.
  • Schedule and coordinate court hearings and related appointments.

Qualifications : Experience & Training : One year of full-time experience interviewing clients for government programs or social services, or equivalent training / experience. License : A valid driver’s license may be required and must be maintained. Knowledge (Entry-Level) :

  • Office practices, computer use, and basic legal terminology.
  • English grammar, spelling, and basic math / accounting.
  • Interviewing techniques and public interaction methods.
  • Data collection, record keeping, and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge (Full Performance) :
  • Departmental policies, legal terminology, and applicable laws.
  • Social service programs and court procedures.
  • Use of specialized software and systems.
  • Skills & Abilities :

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Interpret and apply laws, policies, and court orders.
  • Prepare accurate records and legal documents.
  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Interact effectively with diverse populations and resolve conflicts.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
