Saraland City Schools Mechanic Position
The Saraland Board of Education is accepting applications for the following certified position.
Position Title : Mechanic
Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Maintain a current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
- Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (BDL) and commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment
- Possess and maintain A.S.E. certificate or diploma from technical school in truck or auto repair, no less than six (6) years in shop experience, or be certified as an Alabama School Bus Mechanic
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and / or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Ability to operate and maintain needed tools and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems, to implement preventive maintenance programs, and to follow safety and recommended rules for efficient shop operations
- Ability to pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the Board's policies regarding drug testing, operating school-owned vehicles, transporting students and all applicable policies
- Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
- Ability and willingness to physically perform all duties assigned while on duty
- Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, and inclement weather
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary
- Alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may deem appropriate

Performance Responsibilities :
Embrace and promote the school system's mission, vision, beliefs, and goalsPromote good public relations for school and school system with the publicRegular and punctual in attendanceAccept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of duties and responsibilitiesMaintain safety standards at all timesMaintain good relationships with drivers and other school employeesAssist in developing written maintenance records for all vehicles owned by the school systemPerform routine maintenance and service on vehicles and equipment, including video systems, at regularly-scheduled intervalsMaintain service bay in a clean, neat, and safe mannerProperly use and care for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school systemRequest supplies and equipment needed to carry out duties and assigned projectsDrive buses and transport students as neededPerform road tests of system vehicles as directedPerform road call duty as neededPerform all mechanical maintenance services with priority on student and employee safety; remove from service any bus or other vehicle that is unsafe to operateReturn buses or other vehicles to active service only after identified maintenance problems have been correctedEngage in work related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and / or for advancementMaintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school / workplace mattersDemonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and / or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibilityReport potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnelRespond to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive mannerMaintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate mannerAdhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local lawsPrioritize tasks and use time wiselyPerform other duties as assigned by the Director of OperationsTerms of Employment : Twelve (12) month contract
