About the Role

The Specimen Management Tech assists with the preparation and management of specimens, labels, documents, and data while maintaining compliance with protocols and SOPs. You will maintain the schedule ensuring efficient workflow of group training of other levels, and be cross trained in most of the aspects of the specimen management department.

What You'll Do Here

  • Ensure staff maintains GLP
  • Create, review, and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to procedures and facility issues
  • Managing workload and scheduling to ensure optimal study results
  • Monitor study progress ensuring timely response; help supervisor monitor timelines and audits
  • Assist with training required for the group; train and support employee development
  • Assist scheduling and assigning staff
  • Participate in study planning and specimen management meetings
  • Coordinate with study directors, coordinators, pathologists, laboratory staff, and vivarium staff
  • Ensure that the proper import permits / certificates are valid and in place before shipping specimens to intended recipient
  • Ensure that deadlines are met
  • Review data / equipment accuracy, completion, consistency, and GLP / SOP compliance
  • Assist in maintaining procedure and equipment documentation and perform quality control of forms and logs
  • Ensure that paperwork and packages are compliant with International Air Transport (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR)
  • Assist accounting with specimen shipments reconciliation, purchase order numbers, and shipments sent by courier
  • Monitor area for cleanliness, ensure availability of material, equipment, reagents and expendables
  • Attend training sessions as recommended by department management
  • Assist all areas of the department and other departments as needed
  • Maintain awareness of evolving domestic and international shipping requirements

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3+ years laboratory or regulated environment preferred
  • CLA (Certified Laboratory Aide) certification preferred
  • Knowledge of current International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) transportation safety requirements preferred
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; adapts easily to new software
  • English proficiency both written and verbal; general reading, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong communication skills preferred
  • Basic math skills including weight conversions and inventory systems
  • Watson system knowledge preferred
  • Strong cross-team collaboration
  • Flexibility and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective change management
  • High level detail-orientation with problem solving and troubleshooting skills required
  • What We Offer

    The pay range estimated for this position is $20.00 - $25.00 per hour. Please note that hourly rates / salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
