Job Summary – Conterra is a national networking company who is seeking a Network Engineer II to join our team. Conterra builds and operates fiber optic networks, carrier wireless networks, and offers a variety of IP and Ethernet solutions. Qualified candidates must have a strong background in Carrier Networks with a minimum of 6 years working in network related job roles.

The Network Engineer II is responsible for developing company-wide standards for Network, Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, and IP based network architectures and services.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in the following areas :

  • Design of Carrier-scale network solutions for pre-sale support and post-sale deployment
  • Core-Network monitoring, preventative maintenance planning and after-hours execution
  • Architectural standards improvement and development, including proof of concept exercises
  • Partnering with Engineers / Operations to deploy key infrastructure
  • Presentation of complex concepts and procedures via documentation and illustration
  • Communicating project status to senior leadership
  • Managing multiple initiatives and competing priorities
  • Technical leadership and mentoring to both peers and junior staff Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong background in MEF based Ethernet Service Architectures and technologies such as ELINE, ELAN, E-ACCESS, L3VPN, CFM, Y.1731, Y.1564, RFC2544, Policing, Shaping, QoS, L2CP handling, SLAs, NIDs, etc
  • Extensive experience with BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN, ISIS, OSPF, BGP-LU
  • Extensive experience writing Engineering, Provisioning, Planning and Architecture Guidelines
  • Experience writing and conducting comprehensive Lab evaluations
  • Experience with Ciena SAOS 6.x / 8x / 10x, CN51xx / 39xx / 87xx
  • Experience with NMS / EMS such as Solarwinds, MCP / Ciena Navigator
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN and Managed Services solutions
  • Familiarity with Ciena 6500 and Waveserver AI
  • Familiarity with Netconf, Orchestration, Automation and LSO
  • Familiarity with YAML, Python, Perl, or other such scripting languages
  • Familiarity with Access Networking technologies such as EFM, GPON, and XGS-PON
  • Experience in standards related to Network, Ethernet and MPLS based protocols and service architectures (e.g. IEEE, MEF, ITU, IETF, ONF, ETSI)
  • Experience with Ethernet timing protocols & solutions such as 1588v2 PTP, Sync-E, TDMoE

Education :

  • BS or BA degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • CCNP Service Provider preferred
  • CCNP Routing & Switching less preferred, but still helpful
