This position primarily focuses on producing nearly complete structural construction drawings with minimal redlines or guidance from engineers. The drawings will serve as the basis for engineers' calculations and final adjustments. The Designer I will work independently to prepare structural designs, collaborate with engineers, and coordinate across multiple disciplines.
Role Description (Responsibilities) :
Create and coordinate structural design, overseeing and managing drawings.
Produce a complete set of structural drawings, including general notes, typical details, schedules, and basic foundation and framing details.
Layout structural systems and elements, such as grids, columns, joists, beams, etc., based on input from Project Managers.
Coordinate the structural design with architectural and other disciplines, resolving conflicts and alerting engineers as necessary.
Assist junior engineers with drawing development for minor projects.
Attend client meetings and participate as needed.
Train junior staff in construction document development and uphold company standards.
Troubleshoot and devise solutions for AutoCAD and BIM (Revit) challenges.
Review shop drawings and perform structural as-built surveys of existing buildings.
Perform limited inspections and field investigations to represent the Engineer of Record.
Estimate effort required to complete drafting tasks and meet project deadlines within budget.
Required Hard Skills :
Associate’s degree (AS) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
More than four years of experience using AutoCAD and BIM (Revit).
Certifications such as Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) or through the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and basic computer software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Bluebeam, and others.
Ability to interpret technical documents, governmental regulations, and professional journals.
Strong mathematical skills, including plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and the application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Required Soft Skills :
Ability to analyze and solve problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions from abstract and concrete variables.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to write reports and present information to clients and managers.
Ability to effectively collaborate with engineers, architects, and other disciplines.
Capability to train and mentor junior staff.
Time management and budgeting skills to produce efficient drawings within project constraints.
Nice-to-Have Skills :
Experience with structural as-built surveys, shop drawing review, and field investigations.
Experience in troubleshooting AutoCAD and Revit.
Familiarity with structural system layouts (e.g., grids, columns, beams) and basic design guidelines.
