Purpose
The Director of Nursing (DON) provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing services at University Health Services (UHS). Serving as a key member of the UHS and Healthyhorns leadership teams, the DON ensures delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing operations and workflows. The DON leads a team of Assistant Directors of Nursing and oversees the Staff Education & Infection Prevention and Safety Coordinator, partnering with the Chief Medical Officer and the Assistant Director of Quality Management to drive excellence in clinical operations, patient safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership for all nursing personnel, including four Assistant Directors of Nursing, nursing staff (including medical assistants), and specialized functions (staff education & infection prevention).
Support ADONs to recruit, hire, orient, develop, mentor, evaluate and, when necessary, discipline nursing staff in accordance with institutional policies.
Work with ADONs to ensure nursing workflows support efficient and effective care delivery, excellent student experience, and high standards of quality and safety.
Attend leadership meetings (including Med Exec, UHS Senior Administrative Staff, UHS Management Team, Healthyhorns Leadership Team, clinic leadership teams, and other interdisciplinary committees as assigned), contributing nursing perspective to strategic planning, service development and care coordination across disciplines. Co-chair the Clinical Management Team meetings with the CMO.
Collaborate with AVP and the finance team to support nursing operations through effective budget management and resource allocation. Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources while maintaining high quality care.
In conjunction with UHS leadership and ADONS, develop nursing strategic goals and objectives aligned with UHS / Healthyhorns priorities and evolving primary care models.
The Staff Education & Infection Prevention and Safety Coordinator will operate under the DON's oversight to coordinate training, infection prevention education, and continuing education programs to ensure that nursing staff participate in orientation, ongoing education, professional development, and competency assessment.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
