This fully remote position allows you to make a meaningful impact on student wellbeing while working from your home environment, utilizing technology to bridge distances and connect with students who need your expertise.
As a remote school social worker in this role, you'll typically dedicate 36-37.5 hours weekly to serving a diverse student population spanning grades K-12, with caseloads generally ranging from 40-50 students depending on acuity and service needs. Through virtual platforms, you'll deliver the full spectrum of school social work services including counseling, case management, crisis intervention, and family engagement.
Your responsibilities center on addressing the social-emotional and behavioral needs that impact student success. You'll conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments to understand each student's unique circumstances, family dynamics, and environmental factors affecting their education. Individual counseling sessions address issues ranging from anxiety and depression to grief, trauma, anger management, and social skills development. Group counseling interventions allow you to efficiently serve multiple students working on similar challenges while building peer support networks. When crises emergewhether safety concerns, mental health emergencies, or family disruptionsyou'll provide immediate assessment and intervention, coordinating with appropriate resources and following mandatory reporting protocols.
Case management comprises a significant portion of this work, requiring you to connect families with community resources including food assistance, housing support, medical care, and mental health services. You'll maintain ongoing communication with external providers to ensure coordinated care. Participation in special education processes includes attending IEP meetings, conducting functional behavioral assessments, and developing behavior intervention plans. Your clinical documentation must meet state and federal requirements, maintaining detailed records of all services provided.
Qualified candidates possess an active social work license in New Mexico along with a Master's degree in Social Work. The required two years of school-based experience ensures you understand educational systems, student development, and the unique challenges schools face. Your home office setup must protect student confidentiality with a private workspace, secure internet connection, and appropriate technology including computer, webcam, and headset for clear audio during sessions.
