Position Summary :
Gastroenterology of the Rockies is a rapidly growing Gastroenterology practice in Boulder County and the greater Denver Metro area with eight office locations and five Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
Processes patient medical records in a timely and accurate manner. Converts paper records to electronic format. Responds to requests for information from a variety of sources both within and from outside the organization. Alerts other staff members when information is received that requires action on their part. Continuously checks work for accuracy of data processed. Maintains high level of security and confidentiality regarding the information in his / her care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- In all encounters, acts as the patient’s advocate to ensure optimum patient satisfaction with the experience and care they receive. Always communicates in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that preserves the patient’s rights and dignity.
- Scan and import charts that have been sent from : clinic locations as well as outside locations. Noting actions required and notifying the appropriate clinical staff of the information. Continually checks work for errors and makes the required corrections.
- Dispose all scanned materials by shredding as required by practice policy on a regularly scheduled basis. Does not allow documents requiring shredding to get backed up.
- Contacts patients to provide the results of tests, or other appropriate information.
- Able to educate patients about GI specific conditions, tests and medications using language, terms, and methods that the patient can easily understand. Ensures that patients are provided with appropriate written or verbal information. Asks questions and seeks clarification from providers and RNs when appropriate.
- Document all patient interactions in the appropriate system in a timely and accurate manner and verify that all documentation is complete, concise, and accurately reflects the complete situation and the care that was given.
- Delivers pathology results in a timely manner (within 7 days and as soon as possible for urgent results). Able to prioritize tasks appropriately. All electronic charting is complete, accurate and professional.
- Requests for information are date and time stamped and initialed when received and recorded in the log. Response to the request is also date and time stamped, initialed, and logged when sent out.
- Contacts appropriate hospitals when documentation is missing from a patient file. Follows up until documents are received and added to the file.
- Performs other projects and / or tasks as requested by the management team.

HS diploma or GEDTwo years’ experience in medical records processing. (Electronic medical records and GI experience highly preferred.) Able to work quickly in a fast-paced environment.Good verbal, written and oral communications skillsAble to interface positively and professionally with individuals at all levels both within and outside of the organization.Intermediate computer skills in a PC environment. (Electronic medical records preferred.)Physical Demands and Work Environment :
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances.Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and / or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
