General Function
Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution which places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. The Occupational Extension Office Skills / Office Practices - Correctional Instructor will provide computer applications and software training focused towards vocational, basic, and life skills to incarcerated individuals.
Qualifications
- Requires a degree, certification and / or NC licensure in a vocational and / or life skills subject area from a regionally accredited institution
- Candidate must be able to develop lesson plans and course syllabi, maintain attendance rosters and timesheets, create and teach daily assignments for students
- A background in teaching is preferred, but not required
- Candidate should possess effective communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to relate and communicate well with individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups
- Selected applicant must complete the NC Department of Adult Corrections Background Check Form, please contact the Greene County Continuing Education Programs Coordinator / Instructor at 4 for additional information
Working Conditions
Candidate must be willing to work in a correctional institution in direct contact with incarcerated individualsStandard working schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday from 8am-4pm ( hours weekly)Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progressEssential Functions and Responsibilities
The duties of the Occupation Extension Office Skills / Office Practices - Correctional Instructor include, but are not limited to :

Display ability to instruct students on basic to intermediate level computer skills using MS Office programsHelp students learn more about career development and job preparationDemonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or disciplineDisplay an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or disciplineConnect their subject matter with related fieldsStay current in their subject matter through professional development; through involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshopsTeaching Performance
Pair classroom instruction with general knowledge that prepares students for a successful transition into the communityPlan and organize instruction in ways that maximizes student learningEmploy appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to studentsModify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needsEncourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignmentsContribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectivesEvaluation of Student Learning
