Job Summary
This entrepreneurial, future-forward position collaborates with workforce, corporate, and community partners to grow non-credit online ESL offerings; oversees the ESL and Reading department; and provides faculty leadership for at least one co-curricular group, such as the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and / or other student clubs / organizations. Residential Faculty at Rio Salado College serve as Faculty Chairs to provide leadership over multidisciplinary academic and / or service areas. This position will join a small, collaborative, and innovative Faculty Chair cohort who manages their programs, projects, initiatives, and services while supervising a large contingent of adjunct faculty. Residential Faculty members also serve on Rio Salado’s Faculty Senate and actively participate in multiple college, district, and state-level committees. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Essential Functions
20% - Coordinates development and provides oversight for discipline-related workforce, community, and corporate partnerships.
20% - Provides leadership for adjunct faculty in discipline and related disciplines to include hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluation.
20% - Engages in various instructional activities such as teaching a diverse population of students, curriculum development and assessment, researching and resolving student-related concerns, data analysis and reporting, etc.
20% - Provides leadership for co-curricular student life activities.
20% - Serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff, and administration.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in one of the following fields : Applied Linguistics; English as a Second Language; English Language Learning; Teaching English as a Foreign Language; Teaching English as a Second Language; Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes / subjects : Bilingual Education (BLE); Bilingual / Multicultural English (BME); English as a Foreign Language (EFL); English Language Learning (ELL); English as a Second Language (ESL); Linguistics (LIN); Structured English Immersion (SEI); Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL); Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords : Assessment in ESL; Discourse Analysis; ESL Curriculum; Grammar; Language Acquisition Theories; Lexical Development Vocabulary; Methods for Teaching ESL; Phonetics; Phonology; Pragmatics; Reading; Semantics; Sociolinguistics; Syntax; Writing
Desired Qualifications
A. Experience teaching online
B. Experience teaching Reading at the post-secondary level
C. Experience working with student clubs / organizations
