SUMMARY

The Controller is responsible for overseeingall accounting operations of the company. She / he should have multi-location, retail / restaurant experience, with franchise accounting experience strongly preferred. The Controller must be an expert in GAAP and have solid SEC reporting experience, in addition to being proficient in internal controls, fixed asset accounting, and inventory accounting. Revenue recognition experience under ASC 606, and lease accounting experience under ASC 842 are also strongly preferred. The Controller will supervise the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations processes. She / he should also have at least a basic understanding of tax / compliance reporting filing requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

Manage and develop Buff City Soap’s Accounting team to achieve excellence as they support a rapidly growing company's increasingly complex accounting function

Maintain a highly motivated and engaged team; lead the team through a combination of coaching and empowerment to encourage and elevate staff development and performance

Advise senior leadership on critical business decisions

Help develop organizational priorities and goals

Core Functional Responsibilities

Oversee reporting process; ensure all reports meetaccounting guidelines and principles

Direct (oversee and help produce) annual / monthly reporting, budgets, and forecasting

Lead preparation of year-end close and assist with annual review with Big 4 firm audits; collaborate with auditors and provide needed information as requested

Drive periodic financial reporting, including SEC-styled reporting such as 10-Qs and 10-Ks

Oversee all accounting and administrative aspects of the company, including reporting, and reviewing accounts payable invoices and preparing and reviewing AR billings

Maintain an accounting system of procedures and guidelines to follow

Implement controlsto minimize risk

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements

Manage accounting budget and systems

Support treasury functions such as cash forecasting

Provide analyses and recommendations on key business matters (e.g., franchise management strategy, capital investments, contract negotiations) as requested or required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required, MBA or Master’s Degree in Accounting preferred; CPA strongly preferred.

10+ years of relevant business experience (e.g., retail / restaurant accounting, finance, audit, franchising accounting preferred) and progressive responsibility in accounting roles

Experience with SOX 404 testing and COSO frameworks preferredExperience with system implementations or comfortable in evolving accounting systems required

Proven track record in ensuring a timely month-end closing; track record of helping companies improve financial reporting and results

Prior public company accounting experience preferred

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Superior knowledge of internal controls, accounting principles (GAAP) and accounting guidelines

Strong analytical skills and ability to summarize and communicate complex accounting matters in a way that all key stakeholders can understand them and their business implications

Excellent collaboration skills and ability to influence various stakeholdersincluding franchise partners

Superior verbal and written communication skills

Ability to motivate,inspire, and develop the accounting team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAVEL

Sedentary work predominantly in an office environment that primarily involves sitting / standing

Travel : Occasionally (Less than 25%)
