Lighting Technical Director - Expression of Interest
The Lighting TD designs and implements direct and reflected lighting and shadows for assigned shots that meet art and tone direction, ensuring continuity within the sequence. The role develops solutions and techniques that satisfy art / technical direction, participates in team reviews, and manages multiple assets and lighting setups across a dozen or more shots. Key responsibilities include varied shadowing strategies, volumetric light setups, cucoloris development, and lighting of actors with CG hair and scattering skin materials.
What You'll Do
Design and create lighting and the look of computer-generated objects and scenes.
Create images, effects, and scripts for digitally composited sequences.
Compile the various elements of a shot and see it through to completion.
Demonstrate good listening and communication skills by openly receiving direction and criticism, asking questions to confirm clear understanding, implementing requested changes immediately, and raising flags for potential delays to keep supervisors and production updated.
Demonstrate solid presentation / communication skills in dailies / shot review by clearly and briefly outlining accomplishments and next steps.
Demonstrate solid problem-solving skills.
Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and provide accurate time estimates for shot task completion.
What We're Looking For
At least 3 years of relevant professional VFX experience and a college-level diploma in computer graphics, fine arts, design, photography, or a related field; OR 5 years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of education.
Experience with Katana, 3DS Max, Maya, Houdini, or similar software.
Linux and scripting ability.
Renderman / V-ray.
Nuke.
Experience in Python and / or Lua.
The hiring range for this position in San Francisco, CA is $101,300 to $132,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. A bonus and / or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
