SUMMARY

Love the outdoors? We want to talk to you! We are hiring a full-time Outdoors Reporter to produce in-depth and engaging stories on hunting, fishing, and all outdoor-related activities throughout North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Throughout the seasons, this position will work in various storytelling formats, including print and digital, to showcase the wide variety of outdoor activities that this region has to offer!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Produce compelling and interesting content for the weekly Grand Forks Herald outdoors section, placing emphasis on the people of our local region.

Create original digital content (briefs, videos, etc.) and curate local, relevant content and information for our digital and social media audiences.

Develop and maintain relationships with local outdoors sources.

Assist in posting to social media channels to engage the community, share content and updates, and drive audience loyalty and digital growth through engaging and timely content.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in journalism and experience in a professional newsroom is preferred. Exceptional recent graduates will be considered.

Strong organizational, time management, and people skills are essential.

Ability to write with confidence on multiple topics.

Ability to work on deadline, handle sensitive and emotional situations, balance competing demands, set priorities, and juggle several issues at once.

Photography skills are a plus; ability to shoot video or willingness to learn.

Accuracy and ability to write clean, crisp copy in a fast-paced environment.

Must have a valid driver's license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.

Flexibility is required; work hours may include nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Expected compensation for this role is between $20 and $24 / hour, based on qualifications and experience.
