JOB SUMMARY
The Rig Welder uses hand welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld, repair or join metal pipe or structural components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Must own gas or diesel welding rig including PPE and jack stands
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Welding pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications
- Operate tools and equipment including angle grinders, beveling machines, cut-off grinders, hammers, torches, magnetic drills, welding machines, and a saw-zall.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of arithmetic
- Lay out, fits and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction
- Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)
- Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED requiredMust have 3 years’ experience as a Rig WelderMust pass a weld test (stick, tig, sub-arc, flux core, or mig)SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
