Nature & Scope : Positional Overview
We are seeking an experienced Document Accessibility Specialist to join our team on a temporary basis to address a significant backlog of PDF documents requiring accessibility remediation. The primary responsibility will be to make PDF decisions from the Office of Administrative Hearings (2022–2024) fully web accessible and upload them to the County website. The backlog consists of approximately 850 cases and is expected to be completed within a 3-month period.
While County resources will continue to handle document conversion for 2025 and beyond, this consultant will focus exclusively on the backlog. Key performance indicators will be provided to measure progress and ensure quality standards are met.

- Remediate PDF documents to ensure compliance with web accessibility standards.
- Utilize Adobe Acrobat Pro, CommonLook, and other remediation tools to correct accessibility barriers.
- Upload completed accessible PDFs to the County website.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 / 2.2, PDF / UA, and Section 508 standards.
- Collaborate with internal staff to clarify document formatting requirements and resolve issues.
- Ensure documents are fully compatible with assistive technologies, including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA).
- Maintain detailed documentation of remediation processes and progress toward backlog completion

Qualifications That Will Help You Thrive
Proven experience making PDFs web accessible .Expertise in accessibility tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro and CommonLook .Familiarity with assistive technologies and understanding of how they interact with PDFs.Strong understanding of accessibility standards : WCAG 2.1 / 2.2, PDF / UA, Section 508 .Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve accessibility issues.Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain issues and solutions clearly.High attention to detail and accuracy in remediation work.Experience with Microsoft Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and converting them to accessible formats preferred.
