Job Description :

The Assistant Instructor position within the Welding Technology department is a non-credentialed hourly compensated position whose primary role is to assist a Full-time or Adjunct faculty (also known as the Instructor of Record) with instructional tasks during any class period and help maintain appropriate student to instructor ratios.
Assistant Instructors report to and are supervised by the Department Chair but operate in accordance with and execute the daily classroom instructional plan as set by the Instructor of Record for any given day. Assistant Instructors are primarily responsible for assisting students with tertiary and some secondary level instructional tasks during their assigned class periods. Assistant Instructors refer advising and registration questions primary instructional tasks (Initial course demonstrations and lectures lectures of theory etc.) and student or safety issues to the primary instructor. Assistant Instructors are not the Instructor of Record and leave responsibility for overall classroom management to the Instructor of Record for the class session.
There is limited to zero expectation for student contact outside of the assigned class periods but some grading tasks may be assigned outside of class. Assistant Instructor positions are renewed on a semester by semester basis and are considered temporary positions though all efforts are made to retain instructors for as long as possible.
Occasional travel may be required.
Job Duties :
Provide instruction on a variety of welding and cutting processes in accordance with industry standards and department practices.
Supervise students to ensure the safe and proper use of the facility equipment and supplies.
Evaluate student work.
Assist in the basic maintenance and repair of welding program equipment.
Participate in professional development and training activities in order to develop and maintain skills and knowledge required for instructional excellence and the continuous improvement of the welding program.
Utilize effective verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrate continuous commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with students faculty staff and administration.
Work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility.
Operate independently in a self-directed and self-motivated manner.
Participate in department meetings and activities as required.
Assist in developing quality relationships with business industry and community members.
Implement department division and institutional goals as assigned.
Demonstrate a willingness to embrace and apply the provisions of the Colleges mission statement purpose philosophy and commitment to diversity.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Welding Department Chair or Academic Dean.
Minimum Qualifications :
Possess demonstrable expertise in OAW OFC PAC CAC-A SMAW FCAW GMAW GTAW on carbon steel stainless steel and aluminum on structural and piping shapes of appropriate positions and process for the course content being taught. Expertise may be demonstrated through AWS ASME API AWWA or other current welder certifications of appropriate positions and process transcripted courses portfolio of works with examples showing positions and process or in-person demonstrations.
