EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Associate's Degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; or six months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

High School Diplomas and college / university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY : Design graphic layouts, logos, identity and perform digital pre-press work for a wide variety of printing jobs using the computer to plate technology. Works with customers to recommend various options regarding print jobs, such as paper, colors, inks, layout, graphics, etc. Uses a wide variety of software packages to produce graphic design and layout. Responsible for calibrating and troubleshooting problems with the color copier. Responsible for maintaining the Digital Plate Maker.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : 1. Designs graphic layouts and performs digital pre-press work for a wide variety of print jobs using computer and the Digital Plate Maker to produce plates for press runs. 2. Recommends print options to customers, such as paper, colors, inks, layout, graphic designs, etc. 3. Schedules time to meet production deadlines. 4. Maintains a daily log book to track jobs and billable time. 5. Locates and integrates graphics material into print jobs. 6. Operates, calibrates and troubleshoots problems with the color copier. 7. Uses a wide variety of software packages to produce graphic designs. 8. Converts file formats for pre-press separation and produces the plates for multi colored output. 9. Produces playbills (for theater productions), theater play advertisements, signs, banners, programs, annual reports, logos, event material and various size posters using the plotter or digital plate maker. 10. Scans photos and hard copy documents, then manipulates to improve text and photo quality. 11. Converts colors from RGB to CMYK for layouts to assure color match when run on press. 12. Serves as backup for Quick Copy and Bindery areas. 13. Maintains confidentiality of all information. 14. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks. 15. Reports to work on time every day. 16. Performs all additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing
  • Proficient in both Macintosh and IBM compatible computer. software knowledge, Adobe Creative Suites, Onyx, and Core
  • Proficient in the use of color printers, wide format and laser engraver
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Communicates and follows up with customers with professionalism and patience and possess the ability to repeat information to customers multiple times
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
