ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) provides families who live and work in San Francisco with high-quality early childhood education and enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. Our mission is to empower families who live and work in San Francisco to transform their futures through evidence-based educational and economic opportunities.

Position Summary

FACES is seeking an experienced Career Advisor to join our Workforce Development team and contribute to our mission of advancing equity and economic mobility for underserved families in San Francisco.

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, mission-aligned professional to not only provide individualized employment coaching and workforce guidance but to help shape and elevate the impact of our workforce development programming. The ideal candidate brings experience in career development, labor market, and client advocacy, particularly in historically marginalized communities.

Key Responsibilities

Client-Centered Career Coaching & Case Management

Conduct intake assessments to understand each client’s background, needs, and goals (education, experience, skill levels and areas of interests)

Establish trust and rapport using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally competent approaches.

Develop individualized coaching relationships, setting short and long-term goals based on the client's vision of success.

Ensure ongoing client engagement through regular check-ins (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly)

Support clients with job searches including building and updating resumes, cover letters tailored to target industries, interview prep, etc.

Help clients explore education or training options, including GED programs, vocational training, or college enrollment.

Facilitate career workshops as part of group coaching.

Create and maintain Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) or Employment Plans with specific goals, timelines, and actions.

Identify barriers to employment (e.g., childcare, transportation, mental health, housing instability) and create action steps to address them.

Coordinate with internal and external providers to deliver wraparound services such as mental health counseling, housing, immigration, public benefits assistance, or legal aid

Advocate for client needs by communicating with landlords, employers, or service providers when appropriate

Track employment metrics (e.g., placement rate, wage gain, job retention at 30 / 90 / 180 days)

Work on special initiatives or pilot projects (e.g., Faces Family workforce support services, Mercy Housing Workforce partnership and OEWD Fatherhood initiative program)

Qualifications & Skills

Required :

Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in career counseling or coaching, workforce development, case management, vocational counseling, or a related human services role

Deep understanding of employment equity, economic mobility, and systemic barriers faced by low-income communities of color

Demonstrated success in building client-centered employment plans and achieving measurable outcomes

Strong knowledge of Bay Area labor markets, employment trends, and workforce systems

Exceptional communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across a wide range of clients and partners

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, client database systems (e.g., Salesforce, Efforts to Outcomes), and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, MS Teams)

Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including but not limited to

fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR)

A deep commitment to aligning all program practices to FACES SF values, especially around equity, inclusion, and belonging for all our stakeholder

Strong passion for and a desire to humbly reflect and grow in pursuit of our mission

A sense of humor- we believe joy and justice go hand in hand!

Preferred :

Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Counseling, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience designing and facilitating career-related workshops and trainings

Familiarity with WIOA-funded programs, public benefits systems, and performance-based contracts

Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, highly desirable

Hourly rate $28.85 - $33.00 based on experience
