Description : Job Title : Laborer
Classification : Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt
Reports To : Production Manager
Location : Kymera – Thermal Spray Solutions, Chesapeake, VA - Onsite
Job Overview :
The Laborer will assist various departments in the shop by performing general labor duties, supporting machine operators, and ensuring cleanliness and organization of the work area. This role requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to lift and move heavy materials, and have a willingness to learn on the job.
Responsibilities :
- Shop Maintenance & Organization : Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the shop. Empty garbage bins and ensure proper waste disposal.
- Material Handling : Move and handle materials using forklifts and overhead cranes. Assist with yard receiving and material organization.
- Machine Shop Support : Support machine operators, mechanics, and other workers in daily tasks. Hoist, load, and secure components into polishing lathes.
- Hand Tool Use : Utilize tools such as hand grinders, crankshaft polishers, dot welders, die grinders, and other hand tools safely and proficiently.
- Companywide Assistance : Assist companywide in everything that is needed, including running errands, handling shipping and receiving, and supporting in miscellaneous shop maintenance projects as assigned.

Requirements :
Required Skills and Abilities :
Working knowledge of lathes, and other machining tools is preferred.Ability to operate a forklift is required.Assist QC in maintenance and calibration of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.Attention to detail and s trong commitment to producing high-quality work and ensuring accuracy in all tasks performed.Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.Ability to carry out duties without constant supervision.Ability to adapt to change and maintain flexibility to changes in workload and responsibilities.Safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.Must be able to present proof of "U.S. Person" status as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) : a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual.Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug-screen, eye exam, hearing exam, and respirator test (health screenings required if applicable for job safety compliance purposes).Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent.Some technical and or laborer / helper experience training preferred.Previous experience in a manufacturing, machining, or repair environment is a plus.Prior experience in logistics, shipping, or receiving within a manufacturing or machine shop environment is preferred.Experience operating a forklift is preferred.On-the-job training will be provided for required skills.Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.Strength to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted, repeatedly throughout a shift.Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead, and climbing ladders or stairs, as needed.Capability to pass a respiratory medical evaluation, including hearing and vision exams, and meet all necessary physical qualifications.Ability to wear and work comfortably in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a full-face respirator or helmet PAPR (Powered Air-Purifying Respirator), protective coveralls, gloves, and steel-toe boots, for prolonged periods.Adaptability to safely work in diverse environments, such as high temperatures, confined spaces, and areas with potential exposure to dust, fumes, and noise.Coordination and manual dexterity to safely operate machinery, tools, and equipment while maintaining focus on ergonomics and safety.When requested by employees, and when possible, reasonable accommodation may be provided to help individuals with disabilities perform their essential job functions.
