Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Program Coordinator for First Generation Initiatives. As part of the Strategic Community Initiatives department with the Division of Student Engagement & Success, Program Coordinators will work collaboratively to accomplish the strategic enrollment and retention goals of the University. The Program Coordinator for First Generation Initiatives is responsible for implementing strategies to become the first choice institution for first generation students through targeted recruitment, student support and programming, and increasing scholarships and research focused on first generation college students. The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, and consistent application of programs and activities related to supporting and empowering first-generation college students at UNG, collaborating with various departments and fostering an environment that promotes the academic and personal success of first-generation students on the campuses of UNG.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic initiatives to increase enrollment of first generation college students and to increase their student success outcomes.
- Facilitate the Gen 1 Mentoring Program, including application procedures for mentees and mentors matching, training, and communication; Track and document the retention and persistence of Gen 1 Mentee cohorts, including credit hour production, GPA, and enrollment for future semesters.
- Ensure compliance with all UNG and USG policies and regulations related to the Gen 1 Mentoring program.
- Facilitate collaboration with program coordinators across campuses and various departments to develop programs and workshops tailored to the academic, personal, and professional needs of students. Programs may include the Welcome Back Family Luau, LatinX Graduation Celebrations, and other campus events where first-generation students and families will participate.
- Assess the effectiveness of first-generation student programs and workshops through surveys, focus groups, and data analysis. Prepare annual reports on program outcomes and recommend improvements based on findings.
- Build partnerships with campus departments, community organizations, and alumni networks to enhance programming support for first-generation students at UNG.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote programs and resources for first-generation students.
- Work with local high school and community organizations to encourage first-generation student enrollment.
- Serve as an advisor to Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society coordinating inductions annually. This includes identifying eligible students, communicating induction eligibility, and planning induction ceremonies with Alpha Alpha Alpha advisors.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Requires a general working knowledge of the department's functional area.Exemplary oral and written communication skills, customer service oriented, strong decision-making skills, and a high level of attention to detail.Must be able to utilize Microsoft Office products, such as Word and Excel, and proficient in banner, BDMS, and web content management.Must be able to prioritize tasks, gather and process information, work with little supervision, and maintain confidential.Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree required.Three years of administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with first generation, low-income, or other at-risk student populations.Experience in recruiting and / or retention initiatives.Preferred Qualifications
