GENERAL FUNCTIONS :

The Peer Recovery Coach [PRC] is a para-professional with strong links to case management. The PRC works in cooperation with case manager, primary counselor and community support systems with a responsibility to evaluate clients’ need for supportive and essential services and personal encouragement throughout their course of recovery seeking efforts with MMRS.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

At the direction of a Case Manager or Clinical Manager :

  • Act as an experienced model; demonstrating that recovery is possible; promoting MMRS philosophy and mission through personal attitudes, actions and

behaviors.

  • Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses in their personal recovery plan and objectives; producing written
  • measurable) goals and objectives; continuing to help them update and revise the plan throughout their engagement in our services.

  • Maintain appropriate written logs, reports and records as directed.
  • Facilitate recovery education, including but not limited to : didactic groups, support groups, health fairs / outreach events, etc. in service to community members
  • affected by substance use disorders (family, community and personally).

  • Participate in recovery-oriented systems of care (ROSC) development of self-directed recovery planning and engagement; assisting clients in an integrated
  • coordinated) care model of developing health, safe / stable housing and community resource building.

  • Promote advocacy; participating in advocacy and networking committees and one-on-one activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to host and engage an up-to-date active resource list in order to link clients to appropriate professional and community resources.
  • Develop and strengthen community resources / relationships ; attend and participate in ongoing staff development activities that support professional
  • development and enhance skills in peer coaching and support.

  • Identify gaps and barriers (internal and external); communicate to leadership and clinical staff in order to develop strategies to address and overcome barriers.
  • Facilitate an alumni engagement program to allow client to continue communication as they disengage from active treatment and become an active member of
  • the recovery community.

  • Demonstrates cultural competency and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Strictly adheres to all federal and state laws, rules, regulations and MMRS policies and procedures regarding the confidentiality of client information and client
  • rights.

  • Actively participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings and other agency activities as requested and assigned.
  • Performs other related administrative and facility care duties as assigned
  • Complies with agencies conflict resolution protocols.

  • health and safety of clients.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    Candidate must have the following qualifications :

  • o Be at least 18 years of age;
  • o Have two continuous years in recovery from addition(s), with experience in navigating treatment services and / or prevention;
  • o Share their recovery story as a tool in helping others;
  • o Have experience receiving publicly-funded treatment and recovery services for addiction(s);
  • o Be employed at least 10 hours per week by a licensed Substance Use Disorder Treatment Organization, a PIHP, a Community Mental Health Services Program,

  • or another organization under contract to one or more of the forgoing organizations that provide substance abuse treatment and / or recovery support services;
  • o Attend and successfully complete the MDHHS Peer Recovery Coach training and certification.
