Position : Specialist I - Community Preservation

Annual Salary : $69,326.40 - $88,480.08
Exempt - Not Eligible for Overtime
Benefits-eligible & 401(a) payment equals 5% of base salary.
General Summary :
Under general supervision, assists and performs skilled investigative work, comprehensive field inspections, and enforcement of City building, zoning, housing, land use, abandoned vehicle abatement, signs, public nuisances, health and safety codes and ordinances and related laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Investigate complaints : Receive, record, and investigate routine complaints about code violations, such as zoning, building, vehicle, and health and safety issues.
- Conduct inspections : Inspect properties to gather facts and evidence, which may include taking photographs, making detailed observations, and assessing compliance with codes.
- Enforce codes : Research and apply applicable state and local codes, ordinances, and regulations. Issue compliance orders, notifications, and citations for infractions.
- Prepare documents : Maintain accurate records, write reports, and prepare case information for legal proceedings. This can include preparing notices and liens against properties.
- Communicates with the public : Inform the public about violations, procedures for obtaining compliance, and progress on cases. This may involve dealing with irate individuals.
- Assists with projects assigned by department leadership, providing research, administrative support, and follow-up as needed.
