    We are seeking a Medical Billing / Coding Specialist to join our team! As a billing / coding specialist, typical duties include, but are not limited to, timely submission of physician encounters, payment posting, preparation / completion of third-party claims for electronic / hard copy submission of clean claims, identifying and posting payments, and researching claim denials. Clerical support includes providing patient estimates, resolving patient disputes, initiating telephone inquiries to identify payments and remittances, photocopying various billing documents, and updating online patient account systems. Knowledge of commercial, government, private, and worker's compensation payers. Knowledge of and ability to resolve credit balances by determining contractual postings and the ability to make corrections to reconcile accounts report overpayments to management for refund approval.

    Responsibilities

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • Minimum 3 years previous billing experience in a healthcare setting
    • Minimum 1 year of previous A / R follow up in healthcare setting
    • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
    • Knowledge of and ability to interpret payments, correspondence, and denials from insurance companies, agencies, and other departments. This includes knowledge of and appropriate interpretation of denial codes
    • Demonstrates interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with internal staff and external business associates in a wide variety of business transactions, providing superior customer service.
    • Demonstrates ability to work in a productivity-driven environment, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
    • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills to document and report clearly and concisely; conveys instructions, directions, and information appropriately and professionally.
    • Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Basic Medical Coding, to include knowledge
    • Ability to analyze and appropriately interpret Explanation of Benefits and Remittance Advice.
    • Knowledge of general office systems, including telephone systems, Microsoft
    • Products (MS Outlook, Meister, MS Teams, G-Suite, Email, Word), copier, fax, scanner, and computer.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working in previous healthcare billing systems, working with unpaid claims for government, private, and third-party payers.
    • Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Basic Medical Coding, to include knowledge
    • of HCPCS / CPT / ICD-10 / Appropriate use of Modifiers and Revenue Codes.

    • Ability to exercise the utmost discretion in protecting non-public and or sensitive patient health information (PHI), including but not limited to patient financial data, patient personal and health records, and other proprietary information.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by management
    • Qualifications

    • Certified Biller through AAPC, preferred
    • Orthopedic Spine Coding / Billing Experience, preferred
    • Billing / Collections experience in a medical office setting
    • Strong organization skills
    • Excellent attention to detail
