Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN)
The OR RN is a highly skilled and detail-oriented nursing professional responsible for providing safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role demands strong clinical judgment, precision, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The RN collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical techs, and other members of the perioperative team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for surgical patients
Conduct preoperative assessments and verify patient readiness for surgery
Assist in preparing the operating room, including equipment, instruments, and supplies
Circulate during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and sterile technique
Scrub in as needed to assist with surgical procedures
Monitor patient status throughout the perioperative period, including vital signs and anesthesia response
Administer medications and IV therapies as prescribed
Document intraoperative care and patient responses in the electronic health record (EHR)
Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate and respond to patient needs
Provide postoperative care and education, including pain management and discharge instructions
Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality standards
Respond promptly to emergencies such as adverse reactions, bleeding, or cardiac events
Advocate for patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality throughout the surgical experience
Minimum Requirements
Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
Minimum one year of professional nursing experience; OR experience preferred
Completion of Amergis' Competency Program (if applicable)
Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and perioperative protocols
TB screening and health clearance (as required by contract or regulation)
Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
Successful completion of new hire orientation and OR-specific training
Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
Basic computer literacy
Must be at least 18 years of age
