Recreation Manager - Aquatics
The Recreation Manager is responsible for the planning, management, and coordination of all municipal aquatic facilities and operations, including pools, splash pads, and concession areas. This position leads a team of full-time and seasonal staff and ensures that all facilities meet health, safety, and operational standards. The role includes oversight of facility maintenance, program development, staff training and supervision, budgeting, and public engagement. Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of : 1 water park, 3 lounge pools, 4 splash pads. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise all divisional staff including lifeguards, pool managers, cashiers, concession staff, and maintenance personnel. Assess community aquatic recreation needs and resources; provide strategic recommendations to the Recreation Superintendent regarding programming, fees, staffing, and facility improvements. Promote aquatics programming and services through direct involvement and staff coordination. Ensure facilities are safe, clean, and operational at all times; coordinate and schedule required maintenance. Manage inventory and ensure timely procurement of supplies and equipment for pools and concession operations. Monitor and maintain chemical treatment and water quality in all aquatic facilities; schedule health inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Monitor and maintain food-service operations in concession areas to ensure full compliance with health and safety standards. Administer and monitor the Aquatics Division budget; authorize expenditures, ensure financial accuracy, and uphold fiscal responsibility and stewardship of City resources. Assist with the selection and training of lifeguards; may serve in a lifeguard capacity if needed.
Must be able to work Monday-Friday and when necessary, Saturdays, holidays and evenings. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and / or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor's Degree (B.A or B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Parks and Recreation, Sociology or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in recreation program management or related areas; or equivalent combination of education and experience and / or training. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record. Must possess a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification. Must possess a current Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification. Must obtain Food Manager Certification within 6 months. PREFERRED : Bilingual (English / Spanish) is desired. Experience with recreation management software. Previous municipal government experience.
